I love being in a clean area. It makes me feel like I can get on with the other, more important things. Some people say that cleaning is like therapy. When things are in order in your physical environment you have greater mental clarity. This way, you think better and perform at your best. When things are disorganised and unclean, you don’t know where things are and it just gets worse and worse. It pays to keep things in order and also have a big clean-out once in a while. It’s not only good for you, but also the other people around you that have to share your environment.

Cleaning is a big part of my weekend at home and the afternoons at school. I love the feeling of having things clean and tidy and at school even more important to have things back where they belong so next time we need to use that thing we don’t have to send out the search party saving time and stress.

I think when I am in a clean area I’m happier and less distracted. To keep things neat and tidy I usually try to throw my rubbish in the bin and put things away that I’m not using. When I’m trying to learn I like things to be nice and tidy and to just be surrounded by the things that will help me learn.

If I am working in a messy or untidy area I find that I can’t concentrate very well and that I am less productive. I am constantly distracted by the mess and find myself looking around and thinking, “I hate this mess!”
When I clean up my work area I feel like I have “let go” of things I don’t need anymore. My mind is clear and I am ready to work and feel well organised. I also find that I then have space for a couple of special items that I use to inspire me and remind me of positive things that motivate me to work even harder. I have a special wooden bowl that a friend made for me and inside it I have placed a few important items that are very special to me. Now I can focus on my work and my special things are close by and I can actually see them – they are not hidden under any mess anymore! :)
